Winter Vacation: Part I: Dresdon Germany

This year we were given 3 weeks for winter break.  It was nice to have such a long break and it really allowed us to explore and relax.  We spent 2 weeks away from home.  We traveled back to Germany to spend Christmas with the Chaplins since last Christmas didn't go as planned.  We also spent some time in Austria.  Christmas is amazing in these countries.  A must on each persons to do list.  It is fun to see how Christmas is celebrated so differently around the world.  America has definitely put a materialistic spin on Christmas.  I really like the European version a little better.

Here are some pictures of Dresden, Germany(Mostly, a few other places slipped in but I am a lazy blogger and really don't feel like sorting out the order.)

This church was right outside of our hotel in Dresden, Germany.  It was completely demolished during WWII  and has been restored to its original state.

This was our first day of bundling up.  Cold!

Carter was very cold and had decided he only wants to go to warm places.  He was often covered from head to toe with lots of layers.

This castle was next to the Disney Castle.  We didn't go inside but enjoyed the view from the outside.

Neuschwanstein Castle: This castle inspired the Disney castle.  Our room had a view of the castle.  Very Beautiful but was a little disappointed in the tour.  It was very short and you didn't get to see much of the castle.  Also, way to many tourists!

The Chaplins!  Healthy and ready to explore.  We are so thankful that they let us stay in their home and gave so many memorable experiences.

Taking pictures of drinks is very important when you live in Saudi Arabia.

Dresdon Christmas market.

This is our only Santa picture this year. It doesn't seem to be common to sit on Santa's lap.  That must be an American tradition.

Making a deal for our family Christmas presents.

Drinks are a must!  Each market has a special collector mug. You can return the mug for 2 Euro.  They also do this with plates.  Not a lot of trash, which is nice.

We found a medieval Christmas Market.

Of course the boys bought weapons.

Of course the moms bought more drinks.  Alisha was a trooper and had a drink with all of us!

Bryan and Charlie took the kids to a place that makes this car.  They were able to watch the assembly line.  Each car is custom built for the owner.  Car Model: Phaeten Volkswagon: $120,000

The view from our hotel room.
